Evanston woman missing since Aug. 9, police investigating

Evanston police are searching for missing Evanston resident Julie Michelle Drendel, 49, who has been missing since Tuesday, Aug. 9 after checking herself out of a housing facility.

Julie Drendel is described in a tweet by the Evanston Police Department as a missing and endangered person. She is described as five feet, three inches tall, 135 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, and light freckles. According to officials she was last seen wearing a green sundress and a gray hoodie.

A flyer designed by the Missing Persons Awareness Network said she was last seen walking alone near the 1400 block of Chicago Ave. in Evanston and does not have access to money or transportation.

“She is an absolute sweetheart, gentle spirited young woman who has had a tough go at it,” brother Jon Drendel said. “This isn’t a show on TV. This is our family for real. It’s scary.”

Family believes she could be heading toward Naperville, which is where she grew up.

Jon Drendel and others have been searching the area for her and hanging flyers. He said the response and help from the public has been moving.

Jon Drendel asks that anyone with information about his sister contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000.

“We are just obviously praying for endgame to be my sister is safe and sound and gets whatever help she needs,” he said.
