DeKALB, IL – Three student-athletes from the Northern Illinois University men’s golf team were named by the Mid-American Conference to the Academic All-MAC Men’s Golf team on Wednesday.

Senior Tommy Dunsire (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and junior Zach Place (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) both earned their second Academic All-MAC honors. Dunsire had four top-30 finishes this past season, tying for 15th at the MAC Championship at White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville. His best round of the year came in the opening round of the Rich Harvest Intercollegiate in October, carding a five-under par 67.

Place finished in the top 30 five times in the 2021-22 season, closing the year with a top-10 finish at the MAC Championships. The junior led NIU with a seventh place showing at the conference tournament as the Huskies tied for third as a team. He also finished in the top 20 at the Rich Harvest Intercollegiate.

Graduate student Michael Cascino (Palos Park, Ill./Providence Catholic/Butler) earned his first Academic All-MAC selection. Cascino was NIU’s top finisher in three events last season, tying for 15th at Ohio State’s Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in April with a 54-hole score of one-under par 215. He finished in the top 30 three times during the year.

“Each of our student-athletes earned this honor through hard work and pride in being an NIU student-athlete,” said head coach John Carlson. “It takes a team though and the leader of our academic progress is [Academic Coordinator] Natalie Hall. America’s future is bright as out team members graduate to professional life.”

To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed.
