Swimming and diving for women: Macalester finished second in the Goblirsch Invitational

NS. PAUL, Minnesota – The Macalester College women’s swim and dive team put in several strong performances at the Grace Goblirsch Invitational hosted by Gustavus on Saturday. The Scots finished second of six teams with 535.5 points.

In the first year, Eleanor Parker (Milton, Wis./Milton) gave the Scots the first of two first places by winning the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 19: 46.45. First grader Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Illinois / Evanston Township) won the 200-yard individual medley in 2: 19.26. Junior Grace Madigan (Middleton, Wis./Middleton), who finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2: 02.93, and first grader Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West), who came second in 200, also swam well – Yard butterfly in 2: 21.41.

A trio of first graders took third place: Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, CA / The College Preparatory School) in the 100-yard back (1: 03.61), Anna Rakowski (Vergennes, Vt./Vergennes Union) in the 50-yard -Freistil and Olivia Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Shorewood) in the 200 butterfly (2: 24.68). The sophomore Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) Was also third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.41.

Macalester’s 200-yard freestyle relay with Merkadeau, Chapon, Rakowski and Radke took second place in 1: 42.97. The 400-yard freestyle relay quartet by Merkadeau, Rakowsky, Radke and Madigan also took second place with a time of 3: 46.66. Madigan, Pollock, Radke and first grader Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) together took third place in the 200-yard relay with a time of 1: 55.54.

In the 1-meter diving, Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) took third place in the first year with a score of 203.30.

Macalester returns home to host the Roger Ahlman Invitational at the Riley Pool on December 3rd and 4th.
