Eastern Illinois men’s basketball wins Marty Simmons’ first win against Rockford University | east

CHARLESTON – Behind Sammy Friday IV’s strong game in the opening minutes, the Eastern Illinois men’s basketball team offense fired on all cylinders Thursday night as the Panthers hit Rockford University, 96-64, for their first EIU win hit. Year head coach Marty Simmons.

Friday was 9 of 11 off the floor with seven rebounds when he finished on 21 points, one of six Panthers in the double digits in the game. Friday racked up 13 of its highest grand total in the first half when EIU shot 69% off the ground.

The Panthers would continue to shoot the ball well for the entire duration of the game, finishing the night at 63%.

Henry Abraham had 12 of his 15 points in the first half when he knocked down 3-of-4 out of 3-point range in the game. EIU was 6 of 15 as a team from Beyond the Arch.

EIU SPORT INFORMATION

The Panthers built a 46-30 halftime lead as Rockford managed to get some outside shots early in the competition. Brandon Emerick scored two of his three threesomes in the first half and ended with nine points.

TJ Lacey was the Regents’ leading scorer with 16 points. DJ Bonds added 15 and Zac Centers 11. Bonds and Centers each sunk three 3-pointers as Rockford was 12 of 32 in play from a great distance.

Rodolfo Bolis missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. EIU’s other two starters in the game also hit double digits, with CJ Lane scoring 11 and Kejuan Clements scoring 12.

Jermaine Hamlin took nine points in the second half and finished with 12 points. He added three blocks to his OVC management total as he now has 14 blocks a year.

EIU improved to 1-3 during the season. Rockford is 3-1. EIU returns to work at former OVC member Eastern Kentucky on Monday.
