How to show digital proof of COVID-19 vaccination – NBC Chicago

Beginning Jan. 3, people will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter indoor public spaces in Chicago and suburban Cook County.

You can show your vaccination card in person for proof of vaccination, but showing a digital proof is a common alternative.

Apple and Android, along with the state of Illinois, are trying to make the process as easy as possible.

Here’s how to add your information broken down by the different digital options:

  1. You must have a QR code or downloadable file from your vaccination provider to begin. Your iPhone must also be updated with iOS 15.1 software.
  2. If you have a QR code, open the camera app and hold it over the code. If you see a Health app notification, tap and choose Add to Wallet & Health.
  3. Go to a downloadable file on your phone and tap the download link. Then select “Add to Wallet & Health”
  1. Visit your healthcare provider’s website, app, email, or text message.
  2. Find your COVID-19 vaccination or test information.
  3. Find and tap “Save to phone”. When asked if you want to save with Chrome or Google Pay, choose Google Pay even if you don’t have the app.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. To add your COVID card to your device, read the consent information and tap “I Agree.” You will be asked if you want to add an icon to your home screen.

According to the Google website, it is recommended to create a shortcut so that you can find your COVID card more easily.

Residents who enroll through the Illinois Department of Public Health’s immunization portal, Vax Verify, have the option to use a SMART Health Card.

The card, which has also been rolled out in several other states, is a digital version of one’s COVID vaccination history and allows users to download a QR code to confirm their status.

Participants have the option to print the QR code, download it to their phone, or keep it in their Apple Wallet or in an app through the Google Play Store.

Illinois residents can register through the Vax Verify portal here.

You can also opt for a private app like Clear Health Pass or VaxYes. Perhaps the easiest alternative is to save a photo of your vaccination card to your phone.
