8-year-old among 3 killed, teenager among 13 wounded in Chicago shootings this weekend – NBC Chicago

An 8-year-old was among three people killed by gunfire in Chicago since 5 p.m. Friday and a 17-year-old boy was among 13 others injured

  • Melissa Ortega was walking with a guardian around 2:45 p.m. Saturday when someone shot the 26-year-old man at the 3900 block of West 26th Street, hitting him in the back, Chicago police and Cook’s coroner’s office said county . The guard heard the shots and saw the girl shot in the head, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The man, who police said was the intended target, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
  • A man was fatally shot in Gresham on the South Side on Friday night. Ohleyer Jones, 19, was standing outside the 9000 block of South Normal Avenue around 9 p.m. when he was shot multiple times in the legs and torso, the police and coroner’s office. He was initially taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition but died from his injuries, police said.
  • A man was shot dead early Saturday morning while driving in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side. The 33-year-old man was driving at the 4200 block of South Archer Avenue around 5:15 a.m. when an SUV pulled up next to him and someone inside opened fire, hitting him in the head, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name has not yet been released.
  • A 17-year-old boy was shot dead at a gas station in West Englewood on the South Side in non-fatal attacks Saturday morning. The teenager was at the petrol station on the 2000 block of West Marquette Road around 1am when he was shot multiple times, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot wounds to his leg and buttocks, officials said. Police said he was in good condition.
  • Two men, 22 and 40, were seriously injured at the 10400 block of South Corliss Avenue just after midnight Sunday morning, police said. The younger man was shot in the neck while the older man was shot in the neck and mouth, police said. Both were taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where they are in serious condition, police said.
  • A man was shot dead at a home in Englewood on the South Side on Saturday night. The 45-year-old man was inside a home on the 7000 block of South Lowe Avenue around 6:45 p.m. when he was hit by gunfire, police said. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital where he was in good condition, police said.

At least eight others have been injured in citywide shootings since Friday, 5 p.m

Five people were killed and 33 others injured in Chicago from Friday night through early Tuesday.
