CTA’s vacation train and vacation bus are back for 2021 – NBC Chicago

For the first time in two years, customers can partake in one of Chicago’s most popular Christmas traditions – driving the CTA with Santa in person.

The CTA holiday train

The decked fleet of CTA vacation trains will be rolling through the Chicago neighborhoods on Friday, November 26th. Santa Claus, his reindeer and his new helper Ella the Elf will ride the train lines outside the train to spread the Christmas spirit throughout the city.

This year there will be two special races in downtown Chicago – on Sunday, December 5th and 12th, the loop will be circled for several hours to give riders the opportunity to take vacation photos in the city.

Here is the CTA holiday train and bus timetable for 2021

The CTA holiday bus

From Tuesday, November 30th, the CTA holiday bus “Ralphie the Reindeer” will drive through the streets with a miniature village, lights and Christmas seating.

Both the Allstate CTA Holiday Train and Allstate CTA Holiday Bus make all stops along their line routes and normal CTA fees apply.

COVID-19 rules for the Christmas fleet 2021

  • Face masks are required regardless of age or vaccination status
  • Social distance if possible
  • If the train or bus becomes too full, it is not allowed to stop to take additional passengers. In this case, Santa Claus encourages you to come back on another day or at a time when there may be fewer people
  • There will be no photos with Santa Claus this year

The normal CTA tariffs apply.
