Chicago wins Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Award 2021 as “Best Big City in the USA” for the fifth time in a row!
CHICAGO – Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot, Choose Chicago, and World Business Chicago announced today that Condé Nast Traveler has named Chicago the best metropolis in the US for the fifth consecutive year in its annual event results Readers’ Choice Awards. Chicago has been number one in this category since 2017 for its incredible restaurants, interesting and diverse attractions, and hospitable people.
“Last year I said that Condé Nast’s four consecutive elections are truly a testament to the diversity of our city and an achievement like no other. Now we’ve outdone ourselves, ”said Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot. “As of 2017, Chicago has rightly claimed its spot as the number one top city in the United States, and I would like to thank each of our residents, our world-class restaurants, and incredible companies that continue to represent our city so well. It is true testimony to the determination and enthusiasm of Chicago’s tourism and hospitality industries in the face of unprecedented challenges over the past year and a half, making Condé Nast Traveler readers Chicago the best big city in the United States for a fifth year in a row Businesses, organizations, and residents from across the city gathered to ensure that the city was ready and able to safely welcome visitors to Chicago, whether it be updating infrastructure, processes, or innovating creative offerings. Chicago’s entire tourism and hospitality industries got involved, even the Shedd Aquarium penguins took part in excursions to various aquarium galleries and museums across the city. Based on feedback from Condé Nast Traveler readers, these exceptional efforts were not only well received but also greatly appreciated by visitors.

The pandemic also provided Chicago with an opportunity to evaluate opportunities to further improve the visitor experience for tourists and businesses. In September, Choose Chicago announced the launch of a new AI-powered chatbot, The Bean, designed to answer visitor questions, including restaurants, upcoming events, and generally act as an online ambassador for the city of Chicago. With the help of this new tool, all of Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods can be easily explored by first-time and repeat visitors to the city. Healthy Meetings Chicago was also launched earlier this year, offering business travelers the chance to see how Chicago’s hospitality and tourism communities are protecting their health by working together to create a safe environment for them to reconnect and reconnect .
As Chicago advances into fall and winter, Choose Chicago’s latest campaign, Capture the Excitement, has started. The multi-faceted, integrated campaign highlights the city’s cultural offerings as well as the holiday experience.
