The Chicago shooting leaves a teenager in what appears to be a shootout along Irving Park Road and ends in a crash, CPD says
CHICAGO (WLS) – A 16-year-old boy died on Monday night after an apparent shootout between two cars on the North Side.
The teenager was a passenger in a vehicle near the 2400 block of West Cuyler Avenue in North Center just after 10:50 p.m. when someone shot the vehicle in a Dodge sedan, Chicago police said.
As the victim’s vehicle drove east on Irving Park Road, it crashed on the 4000 block on North Ashland Avenue near Lakeview.
The driver fled on foot, and the teen was rushed to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, CPD said.
He later died, officials said.
It appeared that the two cars exchanged shots, police said. A weapon was found in the victim’s vehicle.
This is the second incident in just three days. Janelle Gardiner was killed in an accident near Irving Park Road and Damen Avenue early Sunday morning.
“The 19th Police District will be stepping up traffic missions and therefore focusing on Irving Park, Ashland and western corridors looking for license plates on stolen vehicles and making sure we keep our community as safe as possible,” said 47th Ward Alderman Matt Martin .
Ald. Martin will host a special CAPS meeting next Thursday October 14th on the two most recent incidents.
Nobody is in custody and the Area Three detectives are investigating.
