Chicago police officers shot dead on the city’s Far South Side, authorities say – NBC Chicago
Chicago police say an officer is receiving hospital treatment after he was shot Wednesday night during a traffic investigation on the city’s Far South Side.
Authorities said the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of 92nd Place and Stony Island Avenue in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.
Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said in a press conference Wednesday evening that the officer was shot in the leg after an exchange of fire with a man in the vehicle who was shot in the upper body.
Both the police officer and the perpetrator are treated in separate hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
Brown said police had a person of interest in custody since Wednesday night.
