Who’s The Fastest Kid In Chicago? A Citywide Race Will Try To Find Out

PULLMAN — Young runners from around the city can lace up this month to compete in the Fastest Kids in Chicago Race, an exhibition-style track meet.

The competition aims to find the fastest young runners in Chicago. It is open to boys and girls 5-14 years old and will run 11am-4pm Dec. 17 at Gately Park’s track and field center, 10201 S. Cottage Grove Ave.

Parents and guardians can register their children online for two races, and the event is free.

Participants can begin checking in at 10:30 am Participants will receive a T-shirt, certificate and drawstring running bag, along with any awards they earn.

The Park District is co-hosting the meet with BOWA Gives, which provides mentorship to youth through sports. The competition debuted last year and returns this year with about 300 runners expected, according to the Park District.

“Friendly competition is always good, especially when it exposes Chicago’s youth to a sport, and builds confidence and self-respect in our players,” Park District CEO Rosa Escareño said in a statement.

Heats will be separated by age group and gender for all races.

The three events :

  • 60 meters: open to all ages
  • 200 meters: open to all ages
  • 400 meters: open to runners in the 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 age groups

Each race will host 24 runners per age group, separated into three heats.
