Stolen vehicle recovered, offender arrested in Orland Park car theft

On Friday, July 15, Orland Park tactical officers located a stolen Dodge Charger in the parking lot of Orland Square Mall.

Shortly thereafter, officers observed a male suspect, later identified as Devonta Harris, enter the vehicle and attempt to drive away.

The stolen vehicle immediately became disabled and Harris fled on foot. Harris then entered Orland Square Mall as officers pursued him on foot through the upper level of the mall.

Harris attempted to evade the officers and leapt from the upper level railing to the lower level floor. Harris attempted to flee again and officers were able to take him into custody.

Orland Fire Protection District was called immediately and arrived on scene to treat Harris for injuries he sustained from his jump. Harris was transported to Silver Cross Hospital.

Upon inspection of the stolen vehicle, officers located a loaded Glock handgun, with an extended magazine, on the driver’s seat of the stolen vehicle.

Further investigation revealed Harris’ current active parole status as he is wanted by the Cook County Sheriff’s Department for Escape as his electronic monitoring bracelet had been illegally removed. Harris also has an original arrest warrant from the Tinley Park Police Department for Fleeing and Eluding.

In addition to the warrants, Harris was charged with the following:
