At the recent National Recreation and Park Association national conference, the Naperville Park District received official notification of its reaccreditation by the NRPA Commission for the Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies.
After a one-year documentation process and a three-day assessment by independent CAPRA experts, the park district again achieved a perfect score in the assessment.
“The CAPRA accreditation process ensures that we have a comprehensive view of all aspects of operations,” said Executive Director Ray McGury. “This review, together with the assessment by external experts, helps us deliver the highest quality of service to our community.”
The Naperville Park District received its first CAPRA accreditation in 2011, one of only two park districts in Illinois to receive national accreditation.
Currently, only 192 park and recreation agencies across the country are CAPRA accredited, including eight other park districts in Illinois.
The CAPRA reaccreditation process requires constant adherence to a comprehensive list of 154 standards of excellence through the submission of annual reports and a full reassessment every five years. In early 2021, Naperville Park District staff conducted a self-assessment and hosted a three-day virtual visit with independent CAPRA evaluators. The district showcased its parks and facilities through video tours and met with reviewers through Zoom. The evaluators submitted their report to the CAPRA commission, which confirmed that the Naperville Park District met all standards with a score of 100%.
