Michael Sokolowski Obituary (1944 – 2021) – Naperville, IL

Michael Thomas Sokolowski, 77, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 25, 2021. He was born on June 28, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Helen (Czerwinski) and Alex Sokolowski.
Dear husband of Joan (Zealley) Sokolowski. Amazing dad to Mark (Stephanie Ganacoplos) and Alex Sokolowski. Loving grandpa from Yianni Michael Sokolowski. Dear brother of Susan Cable (Jim Cogswell). Dear brother-in-law of Sue and Wally Zeddun and dearest uncle of Steve Zeddun (Jessica Gladden), Carter and Skyler Zeddun. Mike was loved by numerous cousins ​​and dear friends
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Helen, grandmother Sophie Czerwinski, mother-in-law Evelyn (Strachota) Zealley, nephew Richard Zeddun and numerous beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mike grew up in South Milwaukee and attended South Milwaukee High School in 1962. He met Joan at the University of Wisconsin, where they dated for three years and were married on June 21, 1975 at Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Mike graduated from Drake University with a BA in Fine Arts and taught art in Sheboygan and the Wisconsin Dells before returning to the University of Wisconsin for a Masters in Landscape Architecture where he met his wife, Joan. As a landscape architect, Mike designed for numerous companies and housing developments. After a long hiatus from education, he returned to school passionately serving lunch to the students every day, known as Mr. Mike.
Mike enjoyed watching his boys compete in sports, painting and sketching, fishing, gardening, dining with friends, pumping irons, cheering the badgers, and vacationing at the lake or beach. Mike had a deep love for his four-legged children and enjoyed hours sitting by his side and taking them for car trips. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, the National Society of Landscape Architects, and the National Education Association.
Instead of flowers, the family would like a donation to commemorate Mike at The Morton Arboretum or Fight Colorectal Cancer (Fight CRC).
The memorial visit will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at the Friedrich Jones Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 44 South Mill St, Naperville IL 60540. For more information, please call 630-355-0213 or visit friedrichjones.com
