A man from Indiana pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Naperville.
Tommie J. Coleman, 20, of Hammond, will be sentenced on March 23 by DuPage County Michael Reidy.
Charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of ammunition were dropped in exchange for the plea.
Coleman was one of three men arrested on Feb. 11, 2021, on the 1400 block of Fairway Drive. Naperville police found an empty car and, after determining it had been taken in a carjacking in Chicago, watched it until three men got in and started it. They then arrested the men.
Coleman pleaded guilty to possessing a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun without having a Firearm Owners Identification card.
Police said they recovered two handguns, ammunition, drugs and keys to another vehicle in the parking lot, which had also been stolen in a carjacking.
Damien C. Plummer, 21, of Chicago, and Karl Erwin Brown III, 22, of Hammond, were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Brown also was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Brown’s next court date is Feb 9, and Plummer’s is Feb 27.
