NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Carleton College men’s soccer team dropped a Labor Day matinee at North Central College (Ill.), falling by a 1-0 tally in the non-conference match. The Cardinals moved to 3-0-0 on the season, while the Knights dipped to 1-1-0.

A scoreless first helped saw North Central hold an 8-4 edge in shots, but each team put only two of those attempts on goal.

The game’s lone goal came in the 58th minute. A foul just outside the box gave the Cardinals an opportunity to organize a set piece. The free kick bounced through the six-yard box, and North Central defender Johnny Kraemer cut to the back post and was able to re-direct the ball into the net.

There were not many additional true scoring chances for either side of the remainder of the match. Carleton’s best opportunity came in the 82nd minute, when Owen Flanagan’s (So./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University) shot was deflected by a Cardinal and tricked just outside the right post.

Overall, North Central held a 15-7 advantage in shot attempts, with a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Carleton maintained a 6-4 margin in corner kicks.

Daniel Linder (Jr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made his first career start in net for the Knights and registered four saves.
