Illinois City Named 4th Safest For Trick Or Treating In The U.S.

As a former trick-or-treater who later became a trick-or-treat escort to my two kids, I remember going out on Halloween, in costume and ringing doorbells all by myself for the first time in 1966.

You probably think that I’m going to go on some sort of “old guy longs for things to be the way they were back-in-the-day” sort of rant, but I’m not. Our parents worried about our safety then, just like parents do today.

When I thought I’d convinced my mom and dad to let me go out on my own with friends, my dad secretly followed me at a discreet distance, just to make sure we were okay.

The fact that he also did that when my wife and I went on our honeymoon is a story for a different day.

For Everyone Who Shouted “Why, It’s Obvious That You’re Talking About Naperville,” Calm Down And Stop Shouting Naperville

Why would I think that anyone would guess Naperville? It might be because Naperville is constantly described in superlatives. Happiest city in Illinois, safest city in Illinois, best quality of life in Illinois, nicest dogs and cats in Illinois, bugs won’t bite you in Naperville…yada, yada, yada.

And now, it turns out the Naperville is the safest city in Illinois for trick-or-treaters, and the 4th safest city for them in the entire country, according to a study by ChamberOfCommerce.org.

The Top Spot In The Country For Trick Or Treaters Is Gilbert, Arizona

Followed closely by Cambridge, Massachusetts and then Cary, North Carolina, with Naperville taking the fourth spot.

Here’s what ChamberOfCommerce.org had to say about Naperville:

A quaint suburb of Chicago, Naperville is no stranger to making the list of “best cities” for families throughout the years. With a population of just under 150,000, Naperville is located within the sweet spot of a small-to-mid-sized city. The city’s low number of registered sex offenders (20 per 100,000), violent crime (77 per 100,000), and property crime (1,311 per 100,000), as well as an average of two pedestrian fatalities per year, make it an ideal location for safe trick or treating.

The only other Midwestern city to make the safe list is Rochester, Minnesota.
