Naperville Central’s girls’ soccer team wants to compete against Naperville North in the section finals, but first has to assert itself against a strong Metea team. This highlight will be presented by the BMO Harris Bank.
Naperville Central is aiming for a place in the section finals but must first go to the semifinals. The matchup is Metea Valley, a team the Hawks swept in the regular season, but this goes for all marbles.
Mustangs are first on attack when Leanne Barrett kicks the ball to find Tyra King, but Jordan Lange is in the perfect spot for the goal. Metea jumps 1-0 up early.
Time for the Hawks to respond. Megan Norkett is here at the free kick that bounces off the Metea goalkeeper, but Sullivan Schubel shoots the ball into the net. The game is tied with 1.
Now the Mustangs are looking for the lead, but Barrett’s attempt at goal finds Central goalkeeper Trinity Strang to keep the game going.
The next time on the offensive for the Hawks and Megan Nortkett does everything herself. She kicks the ball through the defense and scores to give the home team a 2-1 lead.
Can Metea tie things together? Livy Toole finds the ball, but Trinity Strang blocks the shot and keeps the Hawks 2-1 lead in half.
The second half and the Mustangs are still looking for that goal, but Central’s Abby O’Connor dives to the ground to save.
Central tries to extend its lead, but Meteas Julia Straub refuses to attempt to score from the foot of Central’s Molly O’Rear.
Last chance for Metea, but the central defense is high and that’s enough. Naperville Central girls’ football won the Mustangs 2-1 and met Naperville North in the section finals.
