8 Killed, At Least 46 People Wounded Across Chicago in Weekend Shootings: Police | Chicago News

Eight people were killed and nearly 50 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 54 people were shot in 45 separate shooting incidents between 6 pm Friday and 11:59 pm Sunday.

A 29-year-old man was fatally shot while riding the CTA Red Line early Saturday morning. Witnesses said the man was on a train car in the 0-100 block of West 79th Street just after 2 am when an unknown person fired shots, striking the man in the chest and abdomen. He was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

A 26-year-old man was killed at around 3:15 am Saturday in the 200 block of West 87th Street. Police said the man was standing in a parking lot with several people when shots were fired. The victim was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Just minutes later, another 29-year-old man was killed in the 400 block of South Clark Street. He was standing in a parking lot at around 3:20 am when someone inside a black sedan opened fire. The victim was struck multiple times and later died. A second victim was also shot in the arm and leg.

A 30-year-old man died after he was found unresponsive in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street just before 5:15 am Saturday. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to his neck and was pronounced dead.

A 41-year-old man was fatally shot just before 2 pm in the 2600 block of South Tripp Avenue. Police said he was outside when an unknown person fired shots, striking him in the abdomen. He later died at Mount Sinai Hospital.

A 43-year-old man died early Sunday morning after he was shot at the 2800 block of West Wilcox Street. He was standing outside when an unknown suspect opened fire, striking the victim in the chest.

Police said a man in his 20s or 30s was fatally shot just after 2:30 pm Sunday. He was found lying on the street in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street with gunshot wounds to his neck and chest.

Police Superintendent David Brown has a press conference scheduled Monday morning.
