The annual Twilight Invitational is back in Naperville North with many of the state’s best runners coming to town. The Huskies are hoping to stop Naperville Central, Minooka and Batavia, so fire the bagpipes and let’s go!
Runners from 20 different schools compete against light rain throughout the race. The fans will be there again this year.
Everyone is part of a large pack on the first half mile. Waubonsie Valley freshman Lily Baibak is doing well for her team along with Ashley Robinson and Gretchen Leland from Neuqua Valley.
After a mile we see Mary Grace Hegberg from St. Viator, Caroline Schoen from Homewood-Flossmoor and Ava Parekh from Latin, who run Katrina Schlenker from Batavia and Holly Johnson from Downers Grove South.
Naperville Central does well with runners-up like Liv Phillips, Kate Tueting and Ava Hendren near the top 15. Lucy Westlake and Sophie Golobitsh from Naperville North are there as well as Sarah Maggio and Keeley Behr from Metea Valley.
Ava Parekh takes a confident lead on the last half mile. Hegberg and Evelyn Hett from Jones about 25 seconds behind with Caroline Schoen.
Parekh cruises to victory at 4:31 pm and wins the Twilight Invite. Katrina Schlenker and Holly Johnson also round off the top 5. Lucy Westlake from the north is in 11th place, just ahead of Sarah Maggio. Behind them Liv Phillips and the lonely Benet Academy runner Louisa Diamond also make it into the top 15.
Minooka runners Audrey Boles, Gabriella McCollum and Gabrielle Kics helped their team to a second place. Naperville Central ranks third, while Kate Tueting and Ava Hendren finish in the top 20. Naperville North is the team champion with Westlake, Golobitsh, Marissa Magana, Emma Berres and Logan Brennan all finishing in the top 40. Another fantastic Twilight Invitational is in the books.
