Gilbert, MN- Not a report but a fun family event for the weekend. The Upper Midwest Trials Association National Mototrials competition will run Saturday and Sunday at the OHV park. This is only the second time national-level moto trials have been held on the Iron Range! The competition works a little bit like golf. Competitors will take on 12 sections of track. Once a rider enters the section they cannot put their foot down because each time they do it’s a point. Then, just like golf, the rider with the fewest points is the winner. The event is free.
Trail Report from North Country Riders ATV Club:
“All Atv/Utv trails in Sawyer co continue to remain open. With the dry weather this week expect dusty conditions on the fire lanes and in the woods so please watch your speed, increase your following distance and Wi law is to have your headlights on at all times. For more information on joining our club and volunteering to help maintain our trail system, look us up on FB or at www.ncratv.com As always please respect our trail system and ride safe!” – Jesse Reglin
Trail Report from Superior Cycling Association:
“Superior Cycling Association (SCA) is dedicated to the development and maintenance of a world-class mountain bike trail system for Cook County, MN; and to foster the development and programming related to building a culture of mountain biking in support of our trials through community outreach and events.
SCA built and maintains 31 miles of singletrack mountain biking trails in the Superior National Forest from Tofte, Lutsen and Grand Marais. A cluster of 7 miles of trail are at the Britton Peak Trailhead in Tofte, the 14-mile long Jackpot and High Climber trails run between Tofte to Lutsen Mountains, and then a cluster of 10 miles of trail exist at the Pincushion Mountain Trailhead in Grand Marais.
SCA hosts bike races, fun rides, bike clinics – like the SheRides Clinic June 17th-19th – and strives to make cycling on the North Shore more accessible, safe and fun for all ages and abilities. Volunteers contribute the large majority of trail building and maintenance efforts.
Currently, all of our trails except two (High Climber and Back 80) are open and ready for riding. Watch for typical spring conditions. You may encounter soft spots. Please use proper trail etiquette and walk any trail with conditions where riding your bike may harm the trail.
Volunteer work crews will be repairing High Climber on Saturday, June 11th. Please respect the closure and consider joining the volunteer crew to help reopen High Climber. Meet at the end of Ski Hill Road in Lutsen at 9:00 AM Saturday and stay for the cookout at 3:00 PM” Phil Larson, Secretary
