Evanston police to host catalytic converter marking event

The Evanston Police Department will host a third catalytic converter marking event on Sunday, Oct. 30 at the Levy Senior Center in an attempt to make the part less likely to be stolen.

Officers will use spray paint to mark the catalytic converter and markings will only be visible from underneath the vehicle. The event is free to residents and those who work in the city and proof of residency or employment is required. Pre-registration can be completed online.

Only vehicles made from 2019 and older from the following manufacturers will be accepted for the event:

  • Chevy
  • ford
  • Honda
  • Hyundai
  • jeep
  • kia
  • Mitsubishi
  • Nissan
  • Toyota

Police said based on crime data, these vehicles are more likely to be targeted, with Honda and Toyota models accounting for about 80% of vehicles vandalized.
