Evanston lottery winner still a mystery
Someone who stopped into the 7-Eleven at 847 N. Dodge Avenue, and bought a lottery ticket is a newly minted millionaire.
While all eyes were on Maine, where one person in won the massive $1.3 billion Mega Millions jackpot Friday, Jan. 13, an Evanston buyer matched all five numbers to win the second top prize in the Mega Millions contest, the Illinois State Lottery announced.
The winner has not yet been identified; he or she has one year from the date of the winning draw in which to claim their prize. The winning ticket is good news for the 7-Eleven store, too: The retailer receives a selling bonus of 1% of the prize amount.
The Mega Millions roll began on October 18, 2022, and in that time, more than 1.2 million winning tickets were sold and over $14 million in prizes were won by Illinois players.
