Voters can cast their ballots for the Nov. 8 midterm elections starting on Oct. 24, when early voting opens in the Cook County suburbs. For those needing to register to vote, registration at many local village halls closed Oct. 11, but Illinois residents may register to vote online until Oct. 23
Here’s information from Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough’s office on where and when early voting is taking place in the Skokie, Lincolnwood, Norridge, Harwood Heights, Morton Grove, Park Ridge and Niles areas, as well as how to register online.
Voting by mail
Vote-by-mail is now a permanent option in Cook County. Per Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough’s office, any registered voter in Cook County may request a mail ballot. Those who wish to vote by mail must apply to do so at least five days before Election Day and provide a driver’s license or state identification number, the last four digits of their social security number, an email address and an address where a ballot should be mailed.
Registration to vote
october 23 is the last day to register to vote online with the Illinois State Board of Elections. Those who have confirmed they are not already registered to vote using the Board of Election’s voter lookup system must not currently be serving time as a result of a conviction, be at least 18 years old and a US citizen, have lived in their election precinct for at least a month prior to the Nov. 8 General Election, and not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
Registrants must provide a driver’s license or state ID number, the date the license or ID was issued, the last four digits of their social security and their birthdate.
Those who have moved within Cook County must re-register to vote at their current address, Yarbrough’s website says.
