Cook County medical examiner reports Dolton, Posen homicides

Homicides were reported this past week in Dolton and Posen involving four victims, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Kiara Evans, 27, and Carlos Smith Jr., both of the 13900 block of Park Avenue in Dolton, were shot Monday in the 14200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and their deaths were ruled homicides, according to the office.

Both had multiple gunshot wounds, and Evans was pronounced dead at the scene just before 6:30 pm Monday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Smith was pronounced dead just before 7:30 pm Tuesday at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the office.

Dolton police did not provide more information.

In Posen, two men were shot early Saturday at Hero’s Sports Bar and Grill, in the 14300 block of Western Avenue, and their deaths were ruled homicides by the medical examiner’s office.

Police in a Facebook post early Saturday said the shootings occurred in the bar’s parking lot.

Teran Smith Jr., 39, of the 11900 block of South Hamlin Avenue, Alsip, had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 2:30 am Saturday at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Phillip Isaac Powers Sr., 46, of the 15300 block of 9th Avenue in Phoenix, had a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 4:30 am Saturday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the medical examiner’s office .

Posen police did not respond this past week to multiple messages seeking more information.
