Bruce Gervel Obituary (2022) – Naperville, IL

Bruce Robert Gervel, (aka Gerval) age 74, passed away on June 20, 2022. Bruce was born on February 4, 1948, in Chicago, IL. He was a 1966 graduate of Thornridge High School in Dolton, IL. Bruce earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Southern Illinois University in 1973. He also played on the Saluki baseball team. Bruce served in the United States Marine Corps until 1972. Bruce married the love of his life, Nancy Cadman, on June 21, 1975, and they were one day shy of celebrating 47 wonderful years of marriage. After growing up on the southside of Chicago, Bruce moved to Naperville, IL, in the mid-80s, which he affectionately called his home for the rest of his life. He excelled in a medical sales career, building a strong network of relationships with hospitals and medical professionals. He is survived by his son Quinn, (Katey); his daughter, Shannon Bradford (Brian); and his five precious grandchildren: Halle, Lily, Titus, Wilder, and June. He is also survived by his brother, Patrick Gerval; many precious nieces and nephews; and his furry companion, Duffy Finnegan. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Faith Anne; parents, John and Helen Gerval; siblings Jacqueline Gerval, Brian Gerval, Donna Barrins, and Kathleen Gerval. Bruce loved Jesus and served at The Compass Church for 35 years. He loved all his family, the Cubs, and his golden retrievers. He had that gifted personality that made new acquaintances and strangers feel like family. Bruce was called “Sluggo” by his softball teammates due to his short height with prolific power! He was an avid softball player until the age of 60. He loved his nation, loved providing for those in need, and was an avid contributor to many non-profit organizations. Bruce will always be remembered for his smile, outgoing personality, love of dancing and music, sense of humor, commitment to family, and love for God. Visitation: Monday, June 27, 2022, 4:00-8:00 pm at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville, IL. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 10:00 am at The Compass Church, 1551 Hobson Rd, Naperville, IL.
