Body of newborn found in duffel bag near Chicago Firehouse – NBC Chicago

The body of a newborn baby was found in a duffel bag near the North Side in Chicago early Saturday, police said.

According to police, the remains of the male baby were found around 5 a.m. A city fire department spokesman, Larry Merritt, told the Chicago Tribune that a fire crew spotted the snow-covered bag when they went outside to shovel snow.

Police said their detectives and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office were investigating the baby’s death.

According to the police department’s intelligence service, no arrests were made and no cause of death was determined.
