Will Co. Sheriff’s Deputy, 48, Dies After COVID Battle

JOLIET, THE Michael Queeney, a member of the Will County Sheriff’s Office since 2001, died Saturday of the aftermath of COVID-19 at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, sheriff officials said. Queeney lived in Plainfield. He was 48.

Queeney has been assigned to the civil division for the past few years. He is from Elmhurst and graduated from York High School. According to his obituary, Queeney leaves behind his wife Kelly and five children.

“Mike joined Will County in 2001 as a correctional officer at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. He was later promoted to deputy in 2003 and worked for the transportation department before moving to the civil litigation department, ”his obituary reads.

“The news of Deputy Queeney’s death rocked this department,” Will County sheriff officials said on Facebook. “Deputy Queeney has always been positive about helping those in need. Deputy Queeney has been an asset to the Will County Sheriff’s office and he is sorely missed.”
