Police investigating string of pick pocketing thefts – Chicago Tribune

The following items were taken from Northbrook Police Department reports, news release records. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON

Jennifer Marie Garrett of Sarasota, Fla., was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, retail theft and theft Nov. 17. She was arrested after her employer reported she stole cigarettes, a vape pen and money from the business. When police arrested her, officers found a loaded handgun and brass knuckles in her purse. She was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court Dec. 15 in Skokie.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Cho H. Kyung of Northbrook was charged with disorderly conduct Nov. 13. He was arrested after neighbors reported he banged on their door in an aggressive manner. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court Dec. 28 in Skokie.

BURGLARY

A resident in the 2100 block of Foxglove Drive reported Nov. 17 an unknown individual or individuals entered the residence while the resident was out of town and stole jewelry. No sign of forced entry was found.

A resident in the 100 block of Bridlewood Road reported while in the basement of the home the resident heard glass breaking Nov 15. When police arrived they saw three individuals fleeing on foot. The intruders took cash and several items from a bedroom.

A resident in the 2200 block of Mayapple Lane reported an unknown individual or individuals entered the residence and stole several pieces of jewelry Nov 12. No sign of forced entry was found.

THEFT

Police reported Nov. 18 at least eight unknown individuals were involved in a string of pick-pocketing thefts in different stores and restaurants throughout Northbrook. They appear to be targeting older people. An active search for the offenders is ongoing.

Two separate persons reported an unknown individual or individuals stole catalytic converters from their vehicles while they were parked in the 2700 block of Shermer Road Nov 11.

A person affiliated with a retail business in the 100 block of Skokie Blvd. reported finding a wire used to protect expensive coats cut and lying on the floor Nov. 11. A video surveillance showed a man stealing jackets.

A person reported an unknown individual or individuals stole the catalytic converter from the person’s vehicle while it was parked in the 2000 block of Valencia Drive Nov. 15.

A person reported their wallet containing credit cards stolen while shopping in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road Nov. 13. While in the store the person noticed two women passing very close to her. She later learned two women matching the same description attempted to use one of the credit cards.

A person affiliated with a retail business in the 1300 block of Meadow Road reported Nov. 14 ordering a laptop computer scheduled for delivery Nov. 2. When the computer did not arrive, the person contacted the shipper who reported an unknown individual signed for the delivery . The shipper was uncertain whether the person who signed was an employee of the business.
