Naperville ranks 9th in state for DUI arrests, survey shows; WorkNet DuPage’s renovated career center open for use – Chicago Tribune

The Naperville Police Department made 227 arrests for drunken driving in 2021, down 6.2% from 2021, according to numbers compiled by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists.

Despite making 15 fewer arrests last year, the number was high enough for the department to rank 9th in Illinois for the total number of arrests, AAIM said in a news release. (Chicago is not included in the count because of its population size.)

The department with the most DUI arrests was Decatur, which booked 353 people for drunken driving in 2020, statistics show.

Naperville has 177 sworn officers, meaning the 227 arrests equals 1.28 arrests per officer, the alliance said. Franklin Park had the highest number of arrests per officer, making 255 DUI arrests despite having just 46 sworn officers — a rate of 5.54 per officer.

The officer who had the highest number of arrests in Illinois last year was State Trooper Eric David, who stopped 298 drunken drivers.

AAIM, a nonprofit group dedicated to eliminating intoxicated driving, has conducted the DUI survey for 32 years. It’s funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
