LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Fresh off its first win of the season, the Bellarmine University men’s soccer team is set to host Chicago State at 2 pm (ET) Monday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Bellarmine (1-1-1) and Chicago State (0-1-2) met in the Windy City last season at DePaul University. The Knights and Cougars battled to a scoreless tie. Bellarmine had a 12-4 advantage in shots, but the attempts were even at four apiece on goal.

Chicago State is in its third season since the program was resurrected after being dormant since the late 1980s. The Cougars are in their first year in the MAC. It’s also their first under Head Coach Norris Howze.

Chicago State is playing its fourth straight road game to open 2022. The Cougars posted a 3-3 draw with Northwestern in their season debut before a scoreless tie with Green Bay and a 2-1 loss to Detroit Mercy. Danail Sergiev and Niall Reid-Stephen have accounted for all of Chicago State’s goals, netting two apiece.

Bellarmine notched a 2-1 road win over Northern Kentucky on Friday night in a renewal of a former GLVC rivalry. The victory over NKU marked the 220th win of Tim Chastonay’s 25-year career with the Knights men.

Junior forward Nolan McGrath scored his second goal of the season. Senior midfielder Haziq Zed was responsible for the game winner and assisted on the first goal. Sophomore midfielder Brendan Schoemehl added an assist for the first point of his career.
