Gas Price Update: Average Price Now Over $5 Around Oak Lawn

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn residents are feeling the squeeze at the pump with gas prices at a record high in Illinois. The average price of gas in Illinois was about $4.97 per gallon Thursday, according to AAA. That’s up 15 cents from a week ago and up 57 cents from a month ago.

In Cook County, the average price for a gallon of gas was around $5.24, 25 cents over the state average on Thursday.

But, if you know where to look, you can find cheaper gas prices throughout Cook County.
According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in the Oak Lawn area Thursday was selling for $4.89 per gallon at Marathon, 9304 S. Cicero Ave., Oak Lawn. Most gas prices for a gallon of regular are hovering around $5.25 Here are some other places you can save in and near Oak Lawn:

  • Marathon, 9304 S. Cicero Ave., Oak Lawn – $4.89
  • Gulf, 9856 S. Cicero Ave., $4.93
  • SNK Fuels, 12100 S. Ridgewood, Palos Heights, and 11501 S. Harlem, Worth – $4.93
  • Citgo, 2801 W. 87th St.; Shell 2635 W. 87th St; and Clark, 2755 W. 87th St., Evergreen Park – $5.09
  • Power Mart, 6400 W. 127th St., Palos Heights – $5.09

Nationally, the average gas price Wednesday was about $4.57 per gallon, and every state’s average was more than $4 per gallon. Illinois’ gas prices ranked no. 5 in the lower 48 of the county. Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 states in gas price averages Wednesday were California at $6.01, Nevada at $5.22, Washington at $5.15 and Oregon at $5.11, according to AAA. Kansas had the lowest average national gas price at around $4.
