Elizabeth Auten Obituary (1950 – 2022) – Naperville, IL

Elizabeth Jane Auten, age 71, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1983, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2022 at her home with her family at her side. She was born on June 5, 1950 in Texarkana, TX. Jane is survived by her loving husband, Timothy Auten; her children, Gretchen (Nesta Wilson) Auten of Lawrence, KS, Tracy (Salvador “Sal”) Garcia of Leland, IL, and Richard (Amy) Cureton of FL; her grandchildren, Tristan, Liliana and Isadora Garcia, and Rachel Cureton; her brother, Steve (Bonnie) Carle of Daytona, FL and her sister, Peggy (Tony) Ross of Little Rock, AR. Jane was fascinated by anthropology and archaeology, she was familiar with large dig sites in Egypt and was always eager to share documentaries about important finds from Europe, Turkey and the Middle East. She visited the Field Museum often and liked checking out new museums. She loved the Girl Scouts and was a scout herself as a girl and was a troop leader for her daughters’ troops at various times. She was a camp counselor for the day camp at Camp Greenwood in the early 90’s. Occasionally she provided childcare to her grandchildren, and was always up for a game involving imagination and storytelling. She loved her grandchildren very much. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed biographies of the founders of the US and Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Jane majored in political science in college and maintained an interest in politics until the very end of her life. Keeping this in mind, the Auten family requests that instead of sending flowers, to please donate to the National Organization for Women or The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The Auten family will host a Celebration of Life Open House on Saturday, August 13 from 3PM to 6PM at their home at 346 Cedarbrook Road in Naperville. Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Naperville, was disappointed with arrangements. For information call 630/355-0213 or visit www.friedrich-jones.com
