Bridger Valley Pioneer | Two dead and four injured in an accident west of Evanston last Sunday
CHEYENNE – A fatal accident west of Evanston on I-80 last Sunday resulted in the 53rd and 54th deaths on the streets of Wyoming in 2021, 2021, compared with 59 in 2020, 92 in 2019 and 56 in 2018 .
Another fatal accident north of Cheyenne on Tuesday raised the death toll to 55. Driver inattention is being investigated as a possible cause of a fatal accident near Cheyenne.
The fatal accident west of Evanston over the weekend is also being investigated for driver inattention and speed as possible causes. The accident near Evanston blocked I-80 for several hours.
The July 18 crash occurred around the first mile on Interstate 80 west of Evanston, Wyoming, and Wyoming Highway Patrol soldiers responded to the notification of a motor vehicle collision that came in around 2:00 p.m.
A 2002 Toyota RAV-4 and a 2013 Ford F-150 were stopped in traffic due to a previous accident blocking the roadway. The driver of a 2018 GMC Sierra didn’t miss the stopped traffic and collided with the Toyota, causing the Toyota to hit the rear of the Ford.
The GMC driver was identified as a 29-year-old Greeley, Colorado. Resident Braylinwerteberger. Werteberger was unbuckled and was rushed to Evanston Regional Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident. The passenger was identified as a 42 year old Brighton, Colorado .; Resident Mollie Wright. Wright was unbuckled and was transported by helicopter to the University of Utah to be injured in the crash. As possible influencing factors, the driver’s inattentiveness and speed are examined by Wertberger.
Two of the people in the Toyota were listed as fatalities. The driver of the Toyota was identified as 71 year old Wolf Point, Mont .; Resident William J. Baker. Baker was buckled up and was transported by helicopter to the University of Utah, where he later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The teenage passenger in the vehicle was identified as Wolf Point, Mont .; Resident Scobey J. Baker. Baker was buckled up and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. The remaining passenger in the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Wolf Point, Mont .; resident Kade Baker. He was rushed to Evanston Regional Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.
The driver of the Ford was identified as a 36-year-old Bluffdale, Utah; Resident Rosario Ortiz Garcia. Ortiz Garcia was buckled up and was not injured in the crash. The passengers in the Ford were identified as a 46-year-old West Valley, Utah; Resident Maria Lopez and a young passenger. They were both properly buckled and Lopez was transported to Evanston Regional Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
